The Villa Residence is a historic home that experienced a severe fire and sustained damage to most of its structural and support members. After the fire, partially to fully burnt joists embedded in the brick exterior façade was all that remained. DURIN Engineering provided structural analysis of the rehabilitation design plans and surviving structure. DURIN Engineering designed the necessary foundation system to support the proposed improvements while maintaining the existing exterior façade. This effort salvaged viable structural elements and implemented structural improvements required by code, ultimately ensuring the preservation of the historic home. The existing foundation system used large saw milled lumber over a crawl space and the floor joists were embedded in the brick foundation wall system.
