The TDOT project depicted above required the demolition and reconstruction of the Broadway Viaduct in Knoxville, Tennessee. The viaduct spanned a Norfolk Southern Railway Company (NSRR) yard and spanned seven (7) tracks – six in one location and one in another. The structure was originally built in 1927 and was let to construction on 05.10.2019. The project was completed on 10.31.2022 and all construction was accepted by NSRR. The viaduct was and is the connection between the communities of north and south Knoxville.
The coordination focused on substandard clearances for NSRR who operated underneath State Route 1 (US441/Broadway) in Knox County. The existing structure was attached to an existing building at the southeastern portion of the structure. The new structure was constructed without this connection with no harm to the existing structure. Mr. Lanius coordinated the entire project for TDOT and resolved any issues which arose during the preliminary engineering and construction phases of the project. Additionally, Mr. Lanius ensured TDOT paid all incurred expenses related to the railroad in support of this project. Finally, NSRR under previous agreement was required to maintain the existing and any subsequent structure.
