TDOT PROJECT:
The reconstruction of four twin structures along the I-40 inner corridor in Nashville, Tennessee. In total, eight (8) structures were replaced using accelerated bridge construction (ABC) techniques. In all, TDOT personnel worked ten (10) weekend closures of the interstate to accomplish the effort. The contractor builds concrete deck panels offsite while substructure efforts were accomplished at each of the impacted structures. Starting on a Friday afternoon, after rush hour traffic, the interstate was closed to vehicular traffic and the contractor moved in to replace a structure. The grinders were removed with the superstructure, all debris was cleaned up, new concrete box beams were placed, the new deck panels placed, concrete closure pours were accomplished, and traffic was open to the new structure by 5:00 AM the following Monday.
This was one of the first projects worked on by Mr. Lanius as RRC for TDOT. Most of the coordination had been completed by his predecessor but Mr. Lanius managed all railroad coordination efforts during the construction phase of the project.
